David Griffin
Many of my pots are minimalist in decoration as I like the shape of the pot to determine its effect, with either slip(s) or a single glaze. I find it sometimes necessary to enhance the effect of the glaze or the underlying slip by adding flashes of oxide.
I prefer to make sculptural pots but also enjoy the challenge of producing more intricate pieces such as teapots and lidded pieces such as casserole dishes, biscuit barrels and sugar bowls.
I like to limit my glazes to black, blue, brown and bamboo as they all enhance the shape of the pot but also reflect some of my time spent in two African potteries. These glaze colours ensure that the pot does not get lost in its surrounds and therefore makes a simple but effective statement.
